Background of the Study
Mental health issues among children and adolescents are on the rise, with conditions such as anxiety, depression, and behavioral disorders becoming increasingly prevalent. Schools play a crucial role in promoting mental well-being, yet mental health policies in educational institutions are often inadequate. Effective school-based mental health policies provide students with access to psychological support, early intervention programs, and awareness campaigns.
In Zamfara State, mental health issues among students are often overlooked due to a lack of awareness, social stigma, and inadequate policy implementation. Many schools lack trained counselors, and students experiencing mental health challenges often have no access to professional support. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of school-based mental health policies in Zamfara State, assessing their impact on student well-being and academic performance.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the recognition of mental health as a crucial aspect of student well-being, school-based mental health policies in Zamfara State remain underdeveloped. Many schools do not have designated mental health support systems, and teachers often lack training in identifying and addressing student mental health issues. The absence of structured mental health interventions in schools contributes to increased dropout rates, poor academic performance, and social isolation among affected students.
This study aims to appraise the implementation and effectiveness of school-based mental health policies in Zamfara State, identifying gaps and recommending improvements.
Objectives of the Study
